They can't really stay in the original post, because posts don't return to the top when there are replies. It gets lost too easily

That's both the best and worst feature of oppo. Since it's not a forum, posts get lost easily. However, because posts get buried quickly, content stays fresh.

There was a theme day about manual quotes of history, where people appropriated quotes from historical figures to make them fit manual transmissions. That theme in my opinion was awesome, because it just got so nuts. There was probably 100+ posts about this which was kinda cool, it wasn't even a theme day, it was just herd insanity.

I've thought about starting/pushing people to start a proper Oppositelock forum, but I'm not sure it's a great idea. I think the nature of oppo makes it great, if it becomes a traditional forum it might lose something.

It might be worth trying, so long as it stays simple. Minimize the subforums, my thought would be

Opposite Lock: Forum dedicated to random postings just like what Oppo has

Car news and opinions: This is where discussions on various car news would go, including opinion posts such as "The new Lincoln Navigator is uglier than the alien from Alien "

Readers Rides: Build threads, pictures of our cars, etc...

Not many things to be honest. I'm not a fan of the small pictures, and there needs to be a 'sticky' ability for theme days to contain the posts to just one thread.

Other than that, I'm happy.

The biggest issue with Oppo is that posts get buried too quickly, and the "top stories" bar on the left seems completely random.

I sometimes wish it was more like a regular forum with the most recently replied-to posts being at the top.

Honestly, it's the NSFW posts. I know "if you don't want to see it, don't click it," so I don't, but when I point my girlfriend's parents (or my parents) to stuff I've written here, I'm always a little afraid that they are going to see it and take the website out of context, and have that reflect negatively on me.

They would not be happy to see that.

It would be cool if there was some sort of "theme day coordinator" that had the ability to group all of the theme day posts into one and bump it to the top every so often. I like theme days, it's interesting to see what everyone comes up with. However, I do agree that not all if it is good and it pushes down quality posts.

Yup. I've gotten to the point where I pretty much won't spend more than 5 minutes on a post for this very reason. There needs to be a better way to let the "cream" rise to the top. The "Best of OPPO" posts by Das Wauto are great, but it shouldn't be up to one guy to try to make sure the best stuff gets seen.

It gets a little annoying when we have a week where there's one that blows up every single day, but that's pretty rare actually. I don't even remember the last time we had one? The last one that blew up insanely was 'Red Tuesday' like 3 weeks ago.

Well, yeah it's partially a religious thing. Both her and I are Christians, take that as you may, I know that's not hugely popular, but it's the way it is. And she definitely trusts me, but I don't want to break that trust.

But it's also that she is the one I love, and I don't want her to think even slightly that is not the case. I kinda view looking at that as cheating, and I think she would view it the same way.

And your point is also valid too. I know $kay does it, but I don't want Oppo to feel like a stag night. Girls have great opinions that we should welcome and if that's turning them away (which I can guarantee you it would turn some girls away), we should stop.

Well, it might sound harsh but if it's important to her she should have the confidence in you that you won't check them. It's not like that kind of content is hard to get online, so if you were to choose to see such content you would see such content anyway, regardless of the availability on Oppo or your girlfriend's approval. Which is something she already knows, unless she's very naive. If you don't want to see NSFW content you won't see it on Oppo, as it's always hidden behind a safety picture and if it's not the mods will step in immediately.

I do think this stuff should be limited though. So fair NSFW warnings, potentially NSFW content behind a safety picture (so not on the Oppo FP) and only one NSFW post on the Oppo FP max.

I'm not here to talk about my relationship, but she does trust me completely and she knows that I love her. I just don't like the idea of potentially compromising that in any way. It's never been an issue, and I hope it never is. I do appreciate that there are rules for keeping it off of the FP.

It also makes me sad whenever I see people post about how their work has blocked Oppo, because I feel like somehow these posts have contributed. It's not what come here for, so I don't want it to be the reason I can't come here.

I agree, to a point. I think many of us have certain times of the day when we spend the most time on Oppo. I will usually do a timed post if I want my "usual crowd" to see it. Perhaps it would be better to simply repost it without comment if you wanted a different "time group" to see it.

I know exactly the place you are talking about. I believe it's called "Pretty much the rest of the internet." And I concur. It would be nice to have just one domain wherein I can feast my eyes on something other than peddled flesh. Plus, the Google-hive mind already knows my internet history; I'd like there to be at least one redeeming thing on there.

The problem with the "typical" forums is the egos, intolerance, immaturity, and pissing contests that goes on. So maybe we are a little more sensitive to that stuff, because we are better than that.

There is a strange air that everyone has to like everyone else's random vehicle/mods because we are all "enthusiasts". I can enthusiastically like one vehicle as much as I enthusiastically hate another.

No skin off my nose what you believe in. It was more of an afterthought - my initial assumption was she was the really jealous type, but then it occurred to me that might not be correct.

Still, it doesn't matter either way to what I was trying to say, which is that in our society the kinds of opportunities represented by the NSFW posts here are pretty much everywhere. If you go to a bar you can have a quiet drink or try to pick up chicks, for example. If you're on the internet, you can click on porn or not. Heck, I bet if you're really desperate you could get titillated by the lingerie on sale in Walmart.

If it makes you feel uncomfortable maybe you should talk about it with her - that this car site has lots of young men who sometimes post content that you don't look at, and wouldn't want her to get the wrong idea about. I'm guessing that (because the girls are so much more sensible than us) that she knows you well enough that the idea you were perving over it never even occurred to her, any more than she would expect you to do anything other than walk right on past a sex shop that happened to be on a road you were walking down.

For me there are two things.

1 - not able to keep up. I have many busy days at work where I have no time to Oppo. Then when I can, it's clear that I've missed something exciting! I can scroll back for a while, but it's hard to find a "top stories" summary etc. Fortunately we get a "Best of Oppo" summary for us every few days, so I look for those.

2 - When I'm supposed to be doing other things that aren't critical, I end up surfing/browsing/commenting here and wasting too much time!
